Camping Generator Safety Tips
So you’ve been scouting for a camping generator. It’s either that or you’re going to be making one right from scratch (which, if you’re anything like me, you’re not too proud of). Whatever you do, don’t get a ready made camping generator! It’s either that or you will be disappointed with the lack of electricity in your new camp fire.
There are plenty of sources online where you can buy camping generators. Some of them are better than others. I’ve bought some online and had problems with the quality of the product, which was quite apparent from the first day. I’m sure you don’t want to be down the track having your car batteries die on you as well. It’s just not a good idea.
When it comes to choosing a camping generator, there are many factors to take into account. The main things to consider are power output, size and cost. The type of fuel used is another big factor, as you don’t want to end up spending all your hard-earned money on something you can’t use very much.
As far as power output, you need to make sure that it can provide the required current requirements for you. For example, if you’re using your camping generator to power a portable air mattress, then obviously it needs to be able to provide enough power to run the air pump and be able to run the electronic timer. Similarly, you’ll need to think about how much energy your generator needs. Don’t go for the cheapest thing, but rather, go for a camping generator that has a reasonable power output and a long warranty.
If the generator is to be run with wood, then you’ll need to think about the size. A 2 person campfire camping generator should be adequate for a single person, although it’s probably best to double it for a little extra comfort. That said, even a two person camping generator is quite heavy, so you may want to consider a couple of extra people to help you lift it. Finally, think about where you intend to place your camping generator. Is it in an area where there are many trees?
It’s also important to consider safety. If you buy a used camping generator, you should read the owner’s manual carefully. Check for any signs of damage such as rust or missing parts. This is especially important if you buy from a dealer. Buying direct from a camping generator manufacturer provides you with the opportunity to inspect the product thoroughly and see if anything is wrong. You’ll know that you’ve bought a well-constructed piece of equipment when you’re able to fix it yourself!
