Camping knives are used for all sorts of different activities. At first glance, it may seem like they’re primarily used for camping, but these knives have a lot more uses than that. They’re great for various sports, survivalist hobbies, work, hunting, collecting, building, hobbies, sports, or just about anything you can think of. A camping knife can even be considered an essential item for your hiking boots because if you’re ever stuck in a bad situation and need to make a quick rescue attempt, your knife will come in handy.
I’ll start out by saying that not all of your camping knives need to be fixed blade. In fact, if you own one, I highly recommend getting a folding knife as opposed to a fixed blade. Why? Because you can take the knife in different situations, whether it’s going on a camping trip, a beach, a river, a hike, a picnic, a tailgate party, or even just strolling around the park.
If you’re like most people, your camping knives probably consist of a regular knife, some serrated edges (for cutting) and a dull blade for basic tasks like stirring, sharpening, and fire starting. The problem is that these tasks become less necessary with the addition of a folding blade. For example, if you need to cut firewood, take out a small portion of the firewood, or chop up a potato for snacks and easy clean up, a fixed blade may not be able to get the job done. However, if you take a camping knife with you in the wilderness, you won’t have any other choice but to use your camp knife, so it becomes absolutely necessary that it be perfect. Luckily, today there are several manufacturers that offer reviews on camping knives so you can figure out which ones are best for your specific needs.
