If you want to go on the road without bringing your entire home with you, camper vans are the perfect solution. They’re the smallest type of RVs, and most are designed to fit inside the garage of your regular car. However, they also feature enough amenities to comfortably sleep and cook in while on the go.
The latest offering from US company Jayco is a rugged adventure model that can be configured to suit your needs. Starting at $192,000, the Terrain is a true 4×4 that’s built for overlanding adventures. It has a 188-hp turbo-diesel V-6, Koni shocks and a rear hitch strong enough to tow an additional trailer if you need to add more sleeping or storage space.
Another cool option is the Terracamper from German outfitter Tecrawl. It’s based on Mercedes-Benz’s legendary G-Wagen 4×4 and uses a modular accessory kit to create a fully functional camping vehicle. It sleeps up to three and features a roof-mounted tent, convertible sofa, kitchenette and a pullout fridge.
If you want something even more compact, there’s the Caravan Outfitters Free Bird, which starts at $50,810. It’s built on a Nissan NV200 cargo van and can sleep up to two. It doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as the other offerings on this list, but it does offer several intriguing add-ons like roof-mounted capsule tents and a rear-mounted kitchenette.
